Berlin Piano Quartet
Violine – Christophe Horák
Viola – Micha Afkham
Violoncello – Bruno Delepelaire
Klavier – Kim Barbier
The members of the Berlin Piano Quartet, three strings from the Berliner Philharmoniker and the French pianist Kim Barbier, were brought together by one thing in particular: A desire to develop the relatively rarely played repertoire for piano quartet, in addition to the well-known compositions by Mozart, Brahms and Schumann – reference works of this genre.
The interpretations of the Berlin Piano Quartet are inspired by the orchestral experience with the Berliner Philharmoniker. The musicians take great care to look at the works of the repertoire from a new, unusual perspective. Experimental zest, the search for that special moment, and encounters with great musicians, conductors and composers of our time have a far-reaching influence on the music-making of this ensemble.
In 2016 the ensemble performed several concerts in Germany, including a concert at the Easter Festival of Baden-Baden. In December 2014 the quartet made its debut at the hall of the Berlin Philharmonie and in the summer 2015 they performed at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad.
Their debut album has been released by Sony last winter 2016, it includes works of Fauré, Schnittke and Brahms.
Reciter-piano with Rainer Strecker, actor
We met a few years ago with Rainer through common friends. We decided to join forces to present a completely unknown genre; reciter and piano. There is a repertoire for this formation; Liszt, Strauss, Satie, even Schubert wrote pieces for reciter and piano. We are very glad to work together on this particular and wonderful concept; it is simply for us a big pleasure to perform these pieces and share them with the audience.
